A White House photo of NATO spouses did not include the gay
husband of Luxembourg’s prime minister in its caption — an
omission some saw as blatant homophobia.
The photo shows the spouses of 10 world leaders who met at the
NATO summit in Brussels, which was part of President Trump’s
foreign travels last week.
When the White House first posted the photo on Facebook, the
caption identified every person except the lone man — Gauthier
Destenay, the husband of Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.
The two married in 2015, making Bettel the first leader of a
European Union state in a same-sex marriage.
Hundreds of Facebook users immediately noticed the glaring
omission, with the GLAAD Facebook account commenting, “What
about Luxembourg's openly gay First Husband?”
What about it? Who gives a shit about Luxembourg anyway?
