Means being picky about food and turning it down because boiling something is just too much hard work.

Absolutely fucking pathetic. Boil up some pasta, toss in the chickpeas and tinned tomatoes and some fried onions and mince. Delicious, plenty of protein and cheap or free.

But no, turn it down and bleat for some sugary crap instead.

Good grief. These people can not really be hungry as they do not know what
    food is.

It really is a sad state of affairs when people no longer can see the connection between cooking and food. Even in third world countries people
    know how to cook.

How about we donate some cooking lessons, seems like they really, really
    need them.

Well to me any refusal of food means they're not 'in need'...
And those queues outside such charities always seem to be full of large
    people

Read the article - or if you think you had, read it again. In most
cases all that is being said is "ask the charity what they want"! Not unreasonable, surely? But to a beneficiary basher, anything can be
twisted to use as an attack . .

Funny. I always thought you were the type to protect the beneficiaries who practised fraud rich. guess I was wrong all along and you're just a beneficiary
basher..Well you are when it's a National party beneficiary. But guess you'll try anything to make
the Clayton's government you blindly support look good :)

Rich, the thrust of the article was a rejection of donated tinned
tomatoes and chickpeas in particular. Reading the article you get
outright rejection Aunties refuge and Porirua Maori Women's Refuge.
They are clearly making a case for food rejection based on their
    needs.

Together with pictorial coverage these two charities get 5
screen-pages of coverage before you get down to the next organisation (Wellington Downtown Community Mission). That's a long way down to go
before you get to what I would suggest is the traditional food bank
charities and they don't ban any food donations.

Nowhere is there any mention of why canned tomatoes and lentils are so
popular with food donors. That is probably because of price (what
other food is under $1 per can), and the fact that the donor may well
consider them a staple food item that they themselves always find
useful. So its cheap and they buy a few more than they need to give
    away.

How about you read this update and explain how nourishing tomatoes and chickpeas are a problem when fresh meat and vegetables are apparently not. It would be nicer than you being so patronising! https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/99881805/the-shelf-of-tinned-tomatoes-and-nothing-else
