Okay, let us assume that New Zealand is what The Bank calls high income.
From the article
The World Bank also released a third standard for high-income countries,
like the US, at $US21.70 a day.
Unquote
(Greece and Oz and Canada are also on the
list.)
The $21.70US a day is net pay. At 70 cents Kiwi to the US $. We get $31.00 NZ. This turns out to be $217 per week net pay.
Toss in a tax rate of 10% and lets call it $240/week. or $6/hr for a 40 hour week.
People at last we have a poverty line figure.
Now I assume this is per person, so a household would need 4-5 times as much for one bread winner. Say $1000 per week. Increased tax rate will take some of it and this will be offset by Cheaper to live as a family than individuals.
1000/40=$25/hour. or $12.50/hour for two bread winners in a household. Remember this only gets you on the poverty line.
