BECAUSE he’s such a shameless toad, Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein inadvertently blew the whistle on the protection racket at the heart of identity politics.

If you bow to the altar of the globalist left’s grab-bag of causes — LGBTIQ, racism, feminism, open borders, abortion, feminism, climate change, the
Clintons, pro-Islam and anti-Christian, you buy yourself protection.

It’s how it works in Australia, too. Many a career has been made, not on talent, but on allegiance to politically correct shibboleths.

Just watch the media personalities, sports identities, politicians, business leaders and even a police commissioner line up to promote the Yes case in the gay marriage debate. They do it because of the unspoken contract that protects them from negative
    publicity in return.

It’s a deal so well entrenched that when Weinstein, 65, was outed as an alleged sexual predator of three decades by the New York Times last week, he explicitly tried to call in his chips by whining that he had made all these leftie movies and given
money to the Clintons so wasn’t that atonement enough?

“They never wrote about the documentary I did with Jay-Z about Rikers Island (about racism),” he told the New York Post.

“They never write that I raised $50 million for amfAR, (AIDS charity) nor my work with Robin Hood (a George Soros-linked charity which helped fund left-wing
    activists).”

In other words, he wasn’t just signalling his virtue with fashionable charitable activities, but buying a collective blind eye to his alleged misdeeds against women.

And now that the New York Times unexpectedly has welched on the media’s side of the bargain, Weinstein seems to think the problem is that he just wasn’t generous enough. He needs to do more.

So last week, among all his denials and phony mea culpas, he declared he’s going to make a movie bagging Donald Trump, and agitate for gun control and feminist causes.

“I’ve decided I’m going to give the N.R.A. (National Rifle Association) my full attention…

“One year ago, I began organising a $5 million foundation to give scholarships to women directors… It will be named after my mom and I won’t disappoint her.”

Oh, pass the barf bowl, please.

It’s pathetic, but this has long been the modus operandi of the Left: promoting vacuous causes expunges the guilt of being a really bad person and a hypocrite to boot.

Weinstein went so far as to back a documentary, the Hunting Ground, about campus sexual assault, which, despite being a dishonest beat-up, won him plaudits for his feminist sensibilities.

He also reportedly funded a chair at Rutgers University in the name of celebrity feminist Gloria Steinem, marched in a women’s protest against Trump, and is an enthusiastic fundraiser for abortion provider Planned Parenthood, which has been caught out
selling the body parts of aborted babies.

He’s given almost $2 million to Democratic candidates, employed Barack Obama’s daughter Malia as an intern, and hosted a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton at his New York apartment last year.

He counts the Clintons among his closest friends, organising Bill’s 50th birthday party and holidaying with the family.

Weinstein has previously defended fellow sexual abuser, director Roman Polanski.
When he presented Bill Clinton with the LGBTIQ organisation GLAAD’s Advocate for Change award in 2013, he called him “a hero in our time” and boasted that he had been “the chief projectionist at the WH from ‘92 to 2000”.

You couldn’t find a more perfect embodiment of the Hollywood leftist establishment than Weinstein. And, according to the flood of claims that have emerged since the New York Times blew his cover, for almost three decades he was forcing himself on young
actresses, inviting them to his hotel rooms, pressing them for sexual favours, or to watch him shower or masturbate himself, and paying off at least eight accusers.

What’s more, we’re told his behaviour was an open secret in Hollywood and the media, with a former New York Times reporter Sharon Waxman this week claiming that her piece exposing Weinstein in 2004 was gutted by the newspaper after Weinstein muscled
    her editors.

It is a hallmark of the Left to give fellow travellers a free pass for any atrocity while screaming blue murder at conservatives for “micro-aggressions” on Twitter.

How they moralised when Donald Trump merely talked about touching women inappropriately (“grabbing pussies”) on the infamous “Access Hollywood”
tape of 2005, leaked during last year’s election campaign.

Those same moralisers and feminists were the same people who ran protection on Bill Clinton when he was accused of rape and assorted predatory sexual behaviour against young women.

Hillary complains about Trump “looming” over her in an election debate, but
is silent about her pal Harvey, and excused her husband as just “a hard dog to keep on the porch”.

    Hypocrisy, thy name is Hillary.

The predators even run protection for each other, like when Weinstein spearheaded Hollywood’s defence of paedophile director Roman Polanski.

“It’s a shocking way to treat a man who went through the Holocaust and his wife’s murder” was Weinstein’s take.

But a new generation is refusing to enable sexual predators just because they pay lip service to left wing causes.

They seem to believe that virtue signalling should signal actual virtue.

What I find rather concerning and interesting is how the people of the US of

After all the anti right crap we've endured from fake news since Trump
decided to try for the president of the US suddenly the upper reaches of
the ultra left has been found to be wanting.
Your denial is symptomatic of the thinking that has violent masked thugs

It's actually not so much a problem with the left - it's the Hollywood liberal left elites. The ones who say "Do as I say not as I do".

Play the man and not the ball.

I see no hypocrisy displayed by the ball.

It's universal, the gut reaction of so many of Trump's right-wing (yes) kneejerk critics who, while themselves virtue-signalling like runaway semaphore
lamps, secretly envy him as they worship and mirror his crass ignorance, sleaze
    and vulgarity.

Play the man and not the ball.

The ball being the 100 year-old history of the movie-studio casting couch where
coerced favours are and always have been exchanged for fame, such acquiescence motivated by fear of failure, rejection and ridicule.

So which would you rather have: the current 'stomach-churning' hypocrisy of those who have subjected themselves, willingly or otherwise, to the casting-couch system, but who have previously, for whatever reason, chosen discreetly to keep quiet; or the '
stomach-churning' hypocrisy of those media commentators who, in the rush to be the first to cast the first stone, unwittingly signal an impeccable virtue entirely of their own self-serving invention?

Again, there's nothing at all strange in such people conflating the fear of the
acquiescent with the debauchery of the abuser solely to make a political point.
After all, it's in their kneejerk DNA.

Sometime later history tells us that the right are then caught with

As for History, the mediaeval tradition of "Droit du seigneur' was all it took to subdue and keep the servant classes where they belonged.

But now it's the 21st century, the era of the whistleblower. And he's here to stay.

Après Seigneur Weinstein, le déluge...cats out of bags; genies out of bottles; Pandora's box...
