Now there are obviously some of the morons to whom this article is
addressed who uncritically accepted the lie by Steven Joyce, as well
as the lie by Bill nglish in supporting him. I think there is a
different issue here as well. Sadly some of our media were also
blinkered in their emopphasis only on the "game" and their impression
of the "score." Clearly we need better journalism, and it would be
helpful if publication of polls was fobidden for at least a couple of
weeks before voting commences, and also if Treasury were required to
provide an independent resource to provide calculation of projected
budgets based on clearly stated policies of opposition parties.

As it is we are fortunate that we do know that Bill English and Steven
Joyce were prepared to lie on a major issue for political advantage.
Many New Zealanders will also not want such unethical behaviour to be
rewarded - and Winston Peters will gpo into discussions knowing that
if he effectively rewards National for their duplicity that will
reflect badly on him and his party.

    All politicians lie.

Labour (and you, as their unquestioning little mouthpiece here) continue to lie
about health spending not keeping up with inflation and population. A lie that is easily debunked...

    http://www.treasury.govt.nz/budget/votehistory/health

    2017: 16,773,069,000
    2008: 12,240,289,000

    12,2402,289,000 2008 to 2017 inflation adjustment: $14,374,132,000

    https://www.rbnz.govt.nz/monetary-policy/inflation-calculator

    Population 4.26m 2008 to 4.7m 2017

    Per capita $3,375 2008 $3,569 2017

Current spend per capita has increased by 6% after adjusting for inflation.

    End of story.

I haven't checked your numbers, but you appear to have forgotten the
important issue of the known and predicted increase in the percentages
of New Zealanders at older ages. There is now of course the reality
that National lost a court case that gave a large number of workers a
pay increase - they fought it for 5 years, but eventually lost, but do
not appear to have allowed for that loss in budgets . . .

No lies, just amateur spin on your part.

Predicted? Never mind predicted. We are talking about Labour's claim that funding hasn't kept up, not whether it will keep up in the future.

The largest driver of population growth is immigration and immigration carries a small percentage of elderly as they find it hard to qualify.

Rich you have failed on every count except conjecture. The claim made
was that health spending under National has not kept pace with
inflation and populations increase. An ageing population is a valid
    but unrelated issue.

Your response to JohnO was therefore off-topic, yet you accuse John O
    of amateur spin.

Liebor does and they know it.
Should they take over governing the country it will be interesting as to
how soon cancer patients are once again shipped to Australia for treatment.
And just how quickly that the savings disappear

After enjoying 3 terms of worldwide economic boom times, Labour handed over the
reigns to National in 2008 with what Treasury described as a 'decade of deficits'. Labour left them an entrenched structural deficit because of their orgy if spending that
reached its climax in 2008 pre-election desperation bribery. All despite the worldwide boom.

National inherited this structural deficit, then had to deal with the earthquakes and the GFC. Yet here we are 3 terms later and enjoying the third successive year of budget surplus, this year of $4 billion. Remember Labour mocked National's goal of
budget surpluses. No doubt they couldn't comprehend the idea at all.

Unfortunately we are now going to either get a Lab-Grn-NZF government who will squander it on anti-productivity or we will get a Nat-NZF government who will squander it on anti-productivity to appease Winston.

    What a shame.
