They're holding off on two new taxes but going ahead with five others.
Methinks the reds are talking with forked tongue....again!

I see the media political party falling over itself at its own polling
    figures.
Evidently theres a fair bit of culling the polled before they can answer questions..
Not what you'd expect of an unbiased poll.
And the taxes are still there. And will appear (if liebor win the
election) in spite of their denials.

Labor's new slogan. "Let's undo this"

There are a few tax changes that perhaps you saw as "the magic
rainbow" - see this list of tax increases under National:

GST increase from 12.5% to 15% (after promising not to do so)
The bright line CGT that is not a CGT (and fairly ineffective -
Labour will extend it to 5 years)
    The Border Clearance Levy
Increased taxes on KiwiSaver (and lower subsidies)
Compulsory student loan payment increase from 10% to 12%
    Increased tertiary fees
    The 2012 ‘Paperboy’ tax
    Civil Aviation Authority fees rise
Additional fuel tax increase of 9 cents with annual CPI increases
    Locked in for perpetuity
    Road User Charges increased
New annual student loan fees introduced
Massive unnecessary ACC levy increases (desinged to increase costs
early each term so that they can be reduced before an election)
    Prescription fees increased by 66%
New online company filing fees imposed on businesses
Creeping expansion of the scope of Fringe Benefit Taxes – National
tried to tax car parks and plain-clothes police uniforms

Do you remember National _ever_ campaigning on making these "tax"
    increases?

In contrast, Labour are talking about the principles and objectives,
and setting up a working group to consider balance between different
    elements.
Lowering of Working for Families abatement threshold and increasing
the abatement rate, taking money out of the pockets of families
Imposing a $900 Family Court fee
    GST on digital purchases

Ad tax cuts which benifited the wealthy more than Joe Average.

    Civil Aviation Authority fees rise

I have no problem with costs rising at the rate of inflation as long as the
tax table is adjust in a similar fashion.

In contrast, Labour are talking about the principles and objectives,
and setting up a working group to consider balance between different elements.

    As are the TOP party.

The whole question of the Government's income and who is going to pay it,
and benfit from it does need a big Green/White or what ever colour paper and public debate every so often. Things change and staying steady as it goes
will have the Country in the wrong place given enough time.

It is something that should be done and no poltician should be involved.

Labour is thinking on the fly as the election approaches. This will result
is some bulls eye ideas and some that should be directed towards the window
to go out of. The risk is thatthe overall affect will be one of public
opinion being that they are a bit scatter brained.

At this stage I think Labour will fall at the last hurdle but they will put
on the oppostion uniform and a) challange National and b) keep throwing out these ideas, only they will be thought through.

If change is necessary for the overall good of the Country, National is
unable to deliver it as they are conservative. They are predicitiable. Sometimes a bit of tension is good.

Lowering of Working for Families abatement threshold and increasing
the abatement rate, taking money out of the pockets of families

Good grief Rich you missed this. Netflix as an example has GST added now.

That is part of GST on digital purchases -a change I agree with but
introduced, as other changes by National, without consultation, and
without being mentioned at the previous election, and while pretending
that they are all about reducing tax! You are also correct that the
changes to income tax benefitted those on higher incomes hugely more
than those on lower incomes - but the Nat-nuts will deny that truth as
well. Its all part of a knee-jerk set of attitudes that we should have
flat tax rates, more user charges, - but ironically they have taken it
so far that they are now having to book out whole motels in Auckland
to house the homeless at huge cost - far better to have provided a
better level of assistance that enables beneficiaries to better
themselves and become productive taxpayers, but the judgemental right
    need someone to vilify . . .
