This looks to be a case where the Auditor-general, or the ombudsman,
should be able to investigate - the perception of political bias by
the police is rightly being called as damaging.
National has unfortunately used funding as a weapon to dictate to
anyone they provide funding for to also impose restrictions on what
can be said to media - and that is now starting to come back and bite
them - the perception of political interference in justice is not a
good look for the government in the lead up to an election.
Unfortunately the government appear not to care - thankfully at least
one reporter is catching on that we do not want to become a police
state with investigations controlled by the politicians.
