What a shame that the media didn't goad them into taking it to court!

National must be getting depsperate - their first impule is to attack
the messenger and then to lie. A party out of ideas, out of honour,
    and past time they went.

The Todd Barclay situation is indeed very embarrassing to National.
Labour and the Greens can find nothing in this that warrants attention
    outside that electorate though.

National are far from desperate. Look at current polling and the last
    4 general election results.

Labour are desperate to arrest the decline in voter support that
started with the 2005 general election. They have tried hard - Clark
led them to defeat in 2008 after nearly losing in 2005. Goff, Shearer
and Cunliffe and now Little as parliamentary leader in opposition and
no progress so far. Their party vote is so low that what new blood
they have is small in number compared to National.

No matter what anti-National rhetoric you post the fact remains that
Labour, the Greens and NZF need to combine to offer any alternative in government and in recent days we have seen just how unstable a
combination those 3 are likely to be.

National's arrogance over Barclay is however continuing to hurt them -
first there was this example of the interest the media is taking, and
Barclay perhaps spedning his time less than productively : https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/94489690/todd-barclay-emerges-to-criticise-local-council
and another the same day: http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/201851166/todd-barclay-earning-165-000-but-may-not-return-to-parliament
and yet another where Winston Peters raises the issue of whether
Barclay should be getting paid, and the Taxpayer Union (National's
friend Jordan Williams) says he must turn up to work if he wants to
    collect his salary: http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/political/335111/call-for-barclay-to-return-to-parliament

then the link above where the Nats lie about the visit from a reporter

and today the pressure continues: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/opinion/94768002/jonathan-milne-why-the-prime-minister-is-caught-in-a-bind-over-missing-mp-todd-barclay
    and this as well: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/94756508/heat-on-missinginaction-national-mp-todd-barclay-to-quit-and-front-up-to-police-inquiry

"Our reporters on the ground have documented Barclay's electorate work
since June 21. He has not returned to Parliament, he did not turn up
to the National Party conference, he has not turned up to any of his
scheduled public events in Southland, he has not been sighted at any
of his three offices in the large electorate, he has cancelled his
local newspaper columns, and he has spoken publicly only three times –
each time through a spokeswoman or by text message.

The third occasion was to Stuff for this article.

"I remain the MP until the 2017 Election and, until then, I'm
committed and passionate about being actively engaged in issues,
looking out for the people of Clutha-Southland's interests and
advocating on their behalf," he said.

"As for whether I return to Wellington or not, I still haven't made a
decision. Bearing in mind there are a number of other MPs every day
who have leave from Parliament, some for extended periods, for a wide
range of reasons. So it is not unusual."

But the excuses rang hollow in his electorate. Aileen Clarke, who owns
the Catlins Cafe in Owaka, said resentment was building in their
community, and that taxpayers shouldn't be paying Barclay's salary
when he didn't seem to be doing anything.

Barclay hadn't visited the town since the day before the scandal
broke. "He's always been a Queenstown person. And we feel that he
    wasn't representing us."

"I think the best thing to do under the circumstances would be to
resign and stop getting the money."

Clutha District mayor Bryan Cadogan said Barclay should do the
"honourable thing" and make a statement to the police.

Southland mayor Gary Tong said he had not seen Barclay at any events
recently, and would like to talk to Barclay face-to-face about whether
he should resign or return to Parliament.

"I've got to be honest and say I don't know what he's up to out in the community." "

Rich you can go on and on. Yes the Todd Barclay incident is

slide in popular support? You have no answer to that.

Yup. If the slide continues Andy Little may have to be replaced as
leader because he won't even get in on the list. The magic figure is
    about 23% :)
