    Evidently some greenie wants school possum hunts stopped because the
    kids are drowning the joeys.

    WTF else can you do with them?
    They are an introduced pest.

    Fortunately these are country kids and realists about possums
    They find our native trees as tasty as we find sweets.
    They eat the native and introduced bird eggs and often, the hatchlings. Obviously one of the bleeding hearts who wants the morning birdsong back
    but unwilling to admit there's a price.
    Oh and the screams about 1080 from people who are not inclined to go out shooting and trapping possums.
    Its the heights of hypocrisy to demean those who are fighting pest
    infestation

    Yeah it does seem to me that drowning is an unnecessarily cruel method. There must be a better way than that to dispatch them.

    fork up for the cost even, for some advertising.

    Probably don't want all the gunshots going off in the vicinity of a crowd. Captive bolt gun or just snap their necks. Anything with an instant death is better than a drawn out drowning.

    I'm not the expert to ask, but a captive bolt gun would probably do it at $0 per shot.

    That's not the point. They're pests and they have to go. But it can be done without subjecting them to a slow panicking death.

    Generally by clubbing or any other method to hand.
    Generally you're miles away from any anywhere so chucking them in a
    creek might be viable.Remember that this is a foreign invader and pest.
    The more you kill and skin the more money you make and the fewer possums
    are in the bush.
    Moral outrage should be put on hold until the pests are gone
