response to allegations in a book by Stephenson and Hager
http://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2017/06/united-nations-asks-nz-government-to-fully-investigate-afghan-raid.html
"The United Nations Committee Against Torture has released a list of >questions for New Zealand to answer prior to an examination by the
committee in Geneva. The date for the examination is likely to be in
2019.
The question relating to the Afghan raid allegations says:
"Please indicate what measures the State party has put in place to
ensure that all allegations relating to 'Operation Burnham', a raid of
two villages in the Baghlan province in Afghanistan by the New Zealand >Defence Forces on 22 August 2010, will be fully investigated and
addressed."
"
and in the video with the article, we learned that the Defence force
has now acknowledged a suspected civilian casualty during an SIS
raised in Afgahanistan .
Now there may have been time for the government to have just stalled
until after the election, but Brownlee went public with a statement
that is clearly not true.
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/93512356/War-of-words-as-Brownlee-rounds-on-UN-question-about-Afghan-raid-and-inaccurate-media
It is hard to see why Brownlee has now chosen to lie - the one
consistent unforgivable sin with National Party is not to do the wrong
thing, but to be caught.
Brownlee has claimed that the allegations about conduct on the raid
have been disproven. All that was disproven from the allegation in the
book by Stephenson and Hager was that they had the coordinates wrong
for the village - and that the NZ Defence Force mis-named the village
- score even, but neither related to the allegations.
Will Brownlee lose his cabinet position?
English must know that the publicity arising from Brownlees
"mis-statement" will not be lost with the media - they will want to
see an independent investigation - and there is likely to be pressure
for that to report back prior to the election . . .

Dickbot will be pretty desperate to throw some mud around after the lastcouple of poll results.
Diversion is the best thing when you're polling less than 30% and sinking.

There is plenty of time; in a few weeks someone will seek further
information about the response from the NZ Government. The blogs are
often ahead of journalists, but at this one did get noticed by at last
one outlet.
Brownlee will of course not go at this time - to get sacked by
National an MP has to severely embarass the leader or the party, or be
found guilty of something in a court. Avoiding responsibility is
expected within the party.
