• UK Election

From Tony @3:770/3 to All on Thursday, June 08, 2017 23:22:59
It looks like the British Prime Minister made a tactical error in calling a snap election.
At least the silliness in Scotland may come to a halt, for a while at least.

So much for how she was 'Maggy Thatcherish'...
There are times I wish all my relies and friends in Britain got out of there

Wasn't the pooint that she _was_ seen as 'Maggie Thatcherish' - and
part of the population (reputed to be a large proportion of new
voters) rejected the 'austerity, rule for the wealthy' regime and
voted for a more compassionate, traditonal middle of the road UK that
governs for all citizens, and would not run down schools, hospitals,
    and other services.

Doubtless there will be further analysis, but the authoritarian right
has certainly been delivered a message that they were not as ppopular
as they thought, and that Corbyn and Labour did not deserve the
extremist jobes they were given by the Conservative party and the
    media.

Looks like the SNP made one too many suggestions for an independence referendum.

Glad to see that the Greens over there only got one seat. Seeing the
interview with her she makes Sarah Huckabee Sanders look like an
angel with the venom she was spewing out of her mouth against the conservatives.

Glad Labor did not get in or the UK would have been screwed with a

Like it or not, he garners the approval of the younger generation who prefer an
articulate mild-mannered geography teacher over a robotic rote-chanting waxwork
who not only cuts and runs from debate with a "zero-cred" opponent but also, perhaps worst of
all, has no engagement skills because, like far too many Tories, she possesses not one scintilla of emotional intelligence.

May is totally humiliated. She now holds the keys to No 10 only by kneeling to
a handful of stolid fundamentalist Paisley-ites from over the water whose glory
moment has unexpectedly come upon them, and who'll keep her bent double over every barrel they
    can contrive.

As for her Brexit negotiations beginning in 10 days time, Brussels now knows it'll be dealing with a weak and compromised Tory government that's not only on
the back foot but is also headed by a severely damaged Remainer-by-conviction.

Still holed up in No 10, this walking, slogan-talking chaos of confusion is now
forced to embark on a long day's journey into night that she and her incompetent handlers, Lynton Crosby and all, have brought upon themselves.

The fool's-gold Brexiteers, along with Tory Central Office, will now be eating their own livers and good luck to them, I say.

Because luck is all they can hope to count on.

They simply saw May for what she was, and still is. The Guardian nails it:

"....the plight of a younger generation (who see themselves) locked out of the proceeds of prosperity. Despite enacting changes to the tax and benefit system that leave low-income families thousands of pounds a year worse off, she claimed to be fighting
their corner....There were enough who saw her for what she is: disingenuous, dogmatic, unstrategic."

Meanwhile, Labour can enjoy the questionable luxury of being bystanders to the biggest Tory fuckup I've ever witnessed - and I've seen more than a few in my lifetime, including yet another Tory debacle: Suez.

Naked and empty handed, disempowered by their own rank incompetence, May & Co are now forced to play directly into the hands of Merkel et al.

Brexit is certainly a hurdle that thankfully we do not face - in many
respects that debacle is an earlier bungle by the Conservatives, with
many of hte claims by the Tories before the vote now being seen as
typical Tory lies. Other than that, the comparison of governments is
remarkably close - what other differences do you see, Tony?

Running down health services and public education, high immigration to
avoid decent support for job training, increasing unemployment,
increasing debt - just like the Tories . . .

The constant repeating of proven Labour lies won't make them the truth
Rich. The Nat's have poured more into Health and education than Labour
ever did. Letting foreign students in is good for the economy.
Unemployment is back at the levels Labour had forced them to as for the
debt. A good 90% of it most likely the result of Labours unaffordable
    policies and shitty management.
