• Apparently thw PM is disrespectful

(what a pity the journalist cannot correctly use decent English!)
Is he disrespectful because he is not prepared to be gagged (despite being prepared to speak without any political overtones)? It is disrespectful to forbid the PM to speak at Waitangi
Is he being disrespectful because he does not want smelly brown stuff thrown in his face by probably unemployable no-hopers?
Is he being disrespectful because he does not wish to witness an extremely fat and unattractive bum bared before him?
Is he being disrespectful because he believes in democracy and fairness and a tiny vocal minority want to force their perverse opinions on this country?
The answer is no to all of the above. The stupid, inarticulate minority that attempts to destroy our democracy are at fault here. Good on you Prime Minister, let them bare their bums at each other!
As an aside; Andrew Little is a disgrace to the principles of his previously principled party!
Abandon Waitangi Day I say and replace it on another date by true New Zealand Day!

While I support the PM's stand in the circumstances, we can and should
    still celebrate Waitangi day.

While the marae at Waitangi is symbolic because of its connection to
the signing of the Treaty, the commemorations there on February 6th
don't celebrate history but provide a forum for disrespect of our PM
and political protest on current issues. The PM is right to choose to
    be somewhere else that day.

It's immoral that the movement and speech of women in such events it restricted. The 21st century is no place for such bigotry. I don't care
whether this is "culture". The individual rights of people trump culture
every day of the week. And no, it's not disrespect to want to be treated as
an equal human even if it's against someone's cultural norms.

Just celebrate it somewhere other than Waitangi...
A lack of tourist dollars and a reduction in benefits will clear the

I don't disagree. It is immoral to prevent women from speaking but my point was that it is not simply wrong but downright offensive to prevent the leader of a country from speaking on such an occasion, I am sure that no PM in that environment would use the occasion to make political points. The whole thing has become a farce and most Maori (all the ones I know anyway) agree.

No need for the PM to go to the marae. The Treaty was signed at the
Treaty house. But even then good on him for going somewhere that ALL New Zealanders can celebrate the signing.

It always amazes me how people can talk about a group of people and assume
they all hold the same viewpoint. There are many Maori in NZ and most of
them are moderate. They defend, and explain things of value to them but
do not wish nor the feel the need to to get anti social in their behaviour.

Waitangi Day should be about this Country and its people and history in a
good way. Other countries celebrate the birth of their country. It should
bring people together and give a sense of pride to being a Kiwi.
