While the subject of who is retiring is topical ...... It's high time
The Greens dropped Mojo Mathers. I have every sympathy with her for her afflictions, but I object to paying her salary. She simply cannot
perform in the house and has obvious difficulties in normal MP duties
both in and out of the house. Appointing her to the list is ridiculos:
analgous to employing a wheelchair bound postman, or someone with a
severe stutter as acradio announcer. I understand she's highly dedicated
to green party philosophy, but that's not enough.
    A high salary from the taxpayer - I don't think it's justified.

    It's pure tokenism.

This is the problem with list MPs - you get stuck with useless ones that you can't vote out. They should ditch list MPs and just give proxy votes to the leader. If a party has no electorate seats like the Greens then they should get
    *one* list MP plus
    the proxies.

If the Party thinks so then all is satisfactory.

    A high salary from the taxpayer - I don't think it's justified.

One needs to keep in mind that NZ, like other democracies, have rules in how they elect their representives.

One can not start messing around with the system because a representive is
not to ones liking. The system rules say that if you do not like the person then vote against them, or say that MMP does not work as well as it could
    and we need a change.

Good grief if we had to remove usless representives from the House, it would
be empty. Doubt that anyone would buy it.

Consider who you vote for with your Party vote. Whatever that party
is you vote for their entire list - but only if their percentage of
the party vote requires a top-up from the list if they get
insufficient electorate MPs. While individual list MPs are not
directly elected the P in MMP allows a more diverse range of people
into Parliament. The FPP system results are here:

    http://www.elections.org.nz/events/past-events/general-elections-1890-1993

The 1975 result is the worst case of this - National won with a total
of 32% of the votes. A few useless list MPs is a small price to pay
to right such massive wrongs that happened under FPP.
