I see the idiot has volunteered to be among the first into Pike.
Last time I was anything about it that first drift is very long.
And I can see the alcoholic smoker having to be rescued after 5 minutes.
And to those who want to penetrate the drift carry an external oxygen
source so you can get the Darwin Award quicker

It would be so funny if Solid Energy called his bluff.
They can't of course. Their directors and management would be personally
Of course they can - all they need is a very public signing of a
statement by Peters (and anyone els going in) that he has seen the
expert reports and accepts personal responsibility and waives all
rights to compensation etc etc.
The government set up the ownership with exactly this sort of scenario
in view - they could easily buy the mine back from the company -
probably for $1 - if they wanted to; so this is a decision being
effectively made by the government.
There were all sorts of statments about the urgent need to seal the
mone or suffer penalties - strange how now that the protestors can
block the road legally there is no further talk of the company
suffering a penalty.
Yet again the government is only giving part of the story . . .

You cannot contract out of the law. Any such agreement would not stand
if challenged.

Thanks. I hadn't seen it as the law - perhaps the elf'n saveme
legislation has gone a bit further than intended.
We do seem to have disagreement between the 'experts' for theFinally you agree that there is expert opinion that the drift is unsafe, that has been said here by several people for weeks.

Here is a little bit about the advice given to the families >http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/news/article.cfm?c_id=280&objectid=11767097 You and some nasty, uncaring and headline-seeking hacks continue to use the tragedy being experienced by innocent people for you own ends.
