• National's new leader: who wants to try to emulate JK's success?

From Crash@3:770/3 to All on Thursday, December 08, 2016 09:06:10
So who wants to take over as leader of a party that can nearly govern
in its own right? Who wants to compete in the 'preferred PM' stakes
    with the soon-to-be-ex PM?

The challenge for the new leader is to at least maintain a very high
bar. I hope the current candidates think carefully about all this.

Of course they will realise they have big shoes to fill, and it would be unrealistic for anyone to expect the same level of popularity that Key had.
But even Key couldn't match the popularity of the party who were polling
around 50%, while the PM was in the high 30s.
That shouldn't change - given the low ratings of Little, and the
    Labour/Green party.

In some ways it is a bigger challenge than when taking over a poorly performing organisation, there is no forgiveness for making things worse!
