    is uncomfortabe for the National Party, as distinct from the
    government, supports your view that National are ahead of you, JohnO.
    They have for example taken a reaasonable principle of "no surprises"
    to pervert the law relating to Official Information for example -
    insisting that not only they not be surprised, but that they
    deliberately delay facts that they have political problems with until
    so they can release in their own timing - or permanently supress.
    Contracts for funding are now accompanied by a ban on disclosing any information not approved by the government, and not criticising
    National policies to anyone else.

    If National thought they could get away with making your idea law then
    they would - fortunately the loss of a seat to Peters, and the wary
    eye Dunne and the Maori Party have on the next election ensure that
    they would not get away with it.
