• Radio New Zealand and GeoNet

From Rich80105@3:770/3 to All on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 16:33:28
Congratulations to Radio New Zealand for their excellent coverage of
the earthquakes, and to GeoNet for their analysis and commentary.

These are both well worth the funding from the government.

I disagree. The government shouldn't be funding any broadcaster.

What a stupid and uneducated comment Rich! Every town in New Zealand has
access to at least ONE private broadcaster and it isn't hard for them to broadcast the same messages as required by government in times like
this. But don't let unpalatable facts destroy your stupid faith in big totalitarian government as wanted by Labour/Green!

GeoNet does need more funding so it's on hand 24/7. Especially as the

These are both well worth the funding from the government.

I disagree. The government shouldn't be funding any broadcaster.

Who else can provide communications in the event of a natural disaster >>>>> anywhere in the country?

One of the many private broadcasters.
They don't have coverage over all NZ like Radio NZ.

Which parts of NZ can only get Radio NZ and no other broadcaster?
I understand that RadioNZ is the only single broadcaster that covers
    the whole country

Incorrect. Radio NZ does have widespread coverage but so does
Mediaworks. While they have a number of different brands, they cover
Radio and TV and include a single point of news coverage (NewsHub). In
this respect they have more extensive news coverage resources.

How do you feel about GeoNet?

I don't know enough about them or what they do to give an educated >>>>opinion.
