    Evidently its the English translation of the Maori place name
    Apparently a rough translation.
    One of several translations is "Tamaki of a thousand lovers", it implies that it is a highly sought target of admiration. All of which is well and good but the point of the new name is to attract people there is it not? Especially visitors and I suspect it will fail dismally to do that. Respecting the Maori heritage is a good thing but that is meaningless to people who may come from overseas.

    Don't worry, we will still call it City of Sails. If they must change it, I vote for "Skytower City".

    They should stop wasting money and get on with solving the real problems.
