An attemot to compare such things can be seen in these: https://www.politicalcompass.org/uselection2016 https://www.politicalcompass.org/nz2014 https://www.politicalcompass.org/uk2015 https://www.politicalcompass.org/aus2016 https://www.politicalcompass.org/canada2015 https://www.politicalcompass.org/germany2013 https://www.politicalcompass.org/ireland2011

move towards the right over the last 10 to 20 years., but a return to
the left more recently. Governments around the world appear to be
fairly authoritarian as well.

You can't help seeing implications that are not there, can you Tony. I
was responding to the statement that our politicians can safely walk
among the public with no worries - that is demonstrably not true, and
it is regrettable that there has needed to be an escalation of the
amount of protection required. John Key is virtually always
accompanied by protection squad members, previous prime ministers had
not required protection to the same extent. We have been told that the >increase is in response to credible threats and I have no reason not
to believe that. It is now eight years since John Key became prime
minister; and a lot has happened in the world since then; we are not
as different from the USA as some may like to think.
