• When tax cuts matter more than people . . .

"An award-winning Auckland University mathematics professor will leave
the country after his residency application was rejected because of
    his stepson's autism.
    . . . . .

He was the recipient of the 2014 New Zealand Mathematical Society
Research Award and a Marsden grant of $580,000 for his work in
mathematics. In a letter of support, Auckland University said it and
the country would be disadvantaged without him.
    . . . . . "

In its mad race to lower income tax (while increasing other taxes,
reducing benefits, and accruing debt at $27 million a day), our
    government has lost compassion.

This decision is not in accordance with the sort of New Zealand most
of us pride ourselves to be part of; and it is also bad for New
Zealand. It is hard enough to attract top academics to New Zealand as
we do pay less than in many other coutries - it is our image as clean,
friendly and caring that attracts people here. Under National, we are
becoming dirty (think of our rivers, streams and beaches), scared
(even our prime minister needs a large security detail, and seldom
speaks except at paid provate events where the audeince can be
controlled), and greedy and selfish (think of both this decision and
the one denying a dying New Zealander access to medical marijuana, and
our appalling recent record in not accepting a fair share of
    refugees).

Its time for us to claim back our traditional heritage, a country that
is hard working, innovative, compassionate, and looks after its own.
Its time for a change of government.

Tough on the family and possibly not good for the country but there has to be a set of rules.
However if you think that a change of government would fix this I suggest you would not want one that is the same party that introduced the Immigration Act 1987 which contains the basis of these rules. The only two ammendments since then have been trivial and unrelated to this rule.
Yes a change maight be needed but unfortunately there isn't a party or potential partnership with the ability to govern.

They said that before NAtional were elected - and were proved right!

And its certailnly looking "up" under National - note that teh

    Inequality up
    Pollution up
    Debt up
    Housing costs up
    Electricity costs up
    Foreign ownership up
    Corruption up
    and as noted above,

Who are 'they'? And what did 'they' say and in what way were 'they' right. Or are you offering a guess as fact?

I suspect the same was true of the last Labour government and in any event you are parroting a speech by a barely competent MP who pretends to care about the planet but in reality does nothing of the sort like most Green party MPs.

Oh bugger! Rich has found a whole list of misinformation based on denial
that things don't work under Labour to hammer us with. Pity the dumb twit
can't find any cites to prove these didn't rise (in some cases like power prices astronomicaly) while Labour was in power. But then Rich doesn't like discussing Labours preformance 1999-2008 because he knows it'd just be
another enbarasement for the poor wee trolling sausage.
