I wonder why this idiot keeps posting stuff which no-one reads. Is there no way of removing him?

I don't see any of his/her posts as I use a killfile. That's the easiest way
    to hide those posts.

    Yes but it's illegal.

I don't see any of his posts. My killfile removes them.
You too can remove him when you use a real newsreader with a killfile.

My recommendation to you is to switch from Google Groups to a real
    newsreader.

I forget how I did it, but I managed to remove his posts from reaching this computer. Somebody should know how.

I'm using the newsgroups on news.eternal-september.org with Windows Live
    Mail. Windows 7. nz.general
    I don't use Google groups.

At first I used to answer him, but he got too stupid and used too much bad language.
Though I think in an offensive language match I would probably win.
I know stuff like "misbegotten reprobate" (which isn't really swearing
    anyway).

Don't worry, I have more respect for you folks here, gentle readers.

I don't think I've read anything of his. I like historical books, especially Greek and Roman stuff.
My generation in Britain grew up with the death of Socrates in the Jowett translation.
There are some great modern fiction writers of novels. "Ben Hur" was an
    early one.

Of course with the computer we can now read translations of the actual literature of those days.
Some of that stuff today would have the censor fleeing in horror.
We have St Paul's Epistles from Roman times, Romans, Corinthians etc,
    written to the early Christians.
(I expect you know all that, but there might be people here who don't.) Geopelia

Stephen King is a very different sort of author - popular works variously described as horror, fabtasy and even science fiction. In his prologue or end notes he often refers to his gentle readers.

    ............
Years ago many authors used to talk about "gentle readers".
It may have referred to "gentry".
The hoi polloi might have had trouble reading books.
These days nearly everyone can read. How much they can understand might be
    a different matter.
In my young days there used to be a popular magazine called "True
Confessions", designed for"young women of the working class".
That was about all some of the girls I worked among would read. I wonder if
    it is still going.

I used to like science fiction back in the 1950s. It was about as real as "Gulliver's Travels" in those days.
(Now there is a great book! But the satire doesn't really work if we have
moved on from the society of that time.
Just a good adventure story today.)
I don't read science fiction now. Sadly we know too much about real space travel.

I have got rid of him. My newsreader's killfile deletes all of his
posts before I see them. A lot of others here do the same.

You too can get rid of him -- when you use a real newsreader with a
    killfile.

You'll need to point your newsreader to an NNTP news server.

    A) Here are a few text news servers which you can sign up to for
    little or no cost.

    Individual.net ...... http://individual.net/
    Eternal-September ... http://eternal-september.org/
    Albasani ............ http://albasani.net/index.html.en
    AIOE ................. http://news.aioe.org/

    B) Alternatively, you can buy a non-expiring 25GB for USD 10 from
astraweb.com or usenet-news.net. If you use it only for text
groups it can last you for years and years and years.
