• Dawn Service

From Avon@3:770/100 to All on Monday, April 25, 2016 13:18:46
I attended the dawn service in Dunedin this morning with my son. He
represented his high school and laid a wreath at the cenataph.

There was a large crowd of all ages in attendance and it was great to see the turnout.

My thoughts turned to remembering my late grandfather that fought in WW2

I hope this ANZAC day whatever you have been up to, has been a good one for you.

    Least we forget.

    Best, Paul

This is the sort of posting that Patrick Fitzgerald would make.

    Nice one, Paul.

Am currently in Australia, and there was wall to wall t.v.coverage of the ceremonies. Apart from the national anthem being played there is hardly any mention of New Zealand. I wonder if they know what the NZ in Anzac is for?

Any mention of the mass murder of boys and old men by ANZAC troops at Surafend,
    JohnO?

I too attended a service, and I have done so for many years. It's a very
moving experience. I do wish though that superstition were kept out of it. While the songs sung are very good, they all have a religious bent. I don't think religion should have any part of ANZAC day services. My reaction to people mentioning their imaginary friend as if it's a real thing leaves me
to question their sanity, or at least their intellect.

Over here our service included singing both countries national anthems in
full and there were several references to both NZ and Australian soliders
that gave service side by side to their countries.

The 6pm news was also full on coverage on the telly with about 15 mins of the bulletin decidated to it.

Nice to chat with you and thanks for the reply :)

At the time of both world wars. many people would still have believed.
"There are no atheists in foxholes" as somebody said.
Many of their descendants would like to hear the good old hymns.
It's a memorial service for those who gave their lives, as well as just a commemoration of historical events.
