Not long ago I telephoned Trevor Grice who founded and runs the Life Education Trust to ask him if it were true that his organisation had been making false and misleading claims to our children regarding cannabis. I mentioned to him a Uni study showing NZ school drug education is having little effect in deterring youngsters away from drugs. It was rumoured and previously published that he once said he would rather his children use heroin than cannabis. He denied this in an outrage before hanging up.
In the headlines today I see Mr. Trevor Grice again misleading our youth
with outrageously unsubstantiated comments about cannabis ... this is what
he says ...
"This drug I have seen literally destroy hundreds of young people. What I've come to learn is that every heavy cannabis user has trouble with short term memory, and it is difficult for them to see a future because a pathway in a very sensitive part of the brain, the part that we use to think about the future, is badly impeded with this drug. That leaves them locked in a hole
of today and sometimes they see suicide as the only way out."
Mr. Grice therefore has evidence about a "pathway" and the destruction of this pathway by cannabis. I intend to write to him today and ask for that evidence. In the meantime I remain convinced that Mr. Grice and others exceed the truth and this in connection with our children's education is being funded by the taxpayer. Lies are not the way to educate our children and Mr. Grice is stretching the truth with his pathway destruction assertions.
Judy Bailey once told a national magazine in August 2000 that the beast [ meaning cannabis ] is 50 times stronger than in the 1970s .. a direct lie as proven buy our own ESR who have regularly tested cannabis.
When I receive a reply I will post it here .. do not hold your breath.
