Either way, National is confirming that it is good that they lost the election. https://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/opinion/100590094/petition-to-fourlane-sh1-politically-motivated
Falloon appears to have a deficient understanding of "planning" -
apparently to him it is a complex 2 stage process:
1. Have an Idea. 2. Make the idea an election promise
Sadly, Falloon appears not to be alone in thinking that is all there
is to a proper planning process - the authoritarian right "knows"
that they lmnw best - they don;t need to investigate costs vs
benefits, they don't need to figure out how to pay for it, or whether
it is worth putting off other projects. Such incompetence undoubtedly influenced some people to vote for Labour / Green /NZ First, but htere
were others.
If the above description is unfair to the MP, then perhaps you would
prefer the alternative - that he is just lying about it - after all
at a by-election there were other roading promises - bridges that were
never built.. Is this just another lie? The most notable lie, that
probably led directly to National losing, was the "$10 bn hole" - said
by Joyce but bizarrely supported by English. This appears small by comparison, but they had made a habit of too many lies - and not being trustworthy may well have lost them the election.
Sore losers? Certainly. They demonstrate that they have a lot of work
to convince people that they have changed to be a credible alternative
in 2020.
