The Simpsons Showrunner Gets Back At George H.W. Bush
    by Denise Petski

Its taken 25 years, but The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean finally had
his chance to return a jab at George H.W. Bush.

During a speech on family values in 1992, the former president said
that American families needed to be a lot more like the Waltons and a
    lot less like the Simpsons.

Following recent sexual harassment allegations leveled against 41,
    Jean is now responding.

In a tweet, Jean jabbed, .@TheSimpsons I think George HW Bush should
act more like the Waltons than the Simpsons. #25yearoldgrudge.

Is that supposed to be funny or clever or meaningful in some way?

Given that the accusations relate to events from the past few years and
given the minuscule odds of someone over 90 years of age *not* having
some degree of senile dementia (at the very least), it's been
unfortunate to see this one playing out the way that it's been playing
out. If anything, those around him *without* decreased mental faculties
are at fault for not avoiding this situation in the first place. After
all, it's not as if women should be required to put up with a hands-y
person just because that person is slipping mentally.

In any case, it's pretty pathetic for this Simpsons loser to pile on
    like this.

Way to show an inability to take a joke.

It took 25 years to come up with THAT?

And BTW, that accusation of him being like Harvey Weinstein and his ilk
    was ridickulous!

A couple of things here: George H.W. Bush is 93 and (since everybody's
seen him lately) it's clear that he's not entirely compos mentis.

I've heard he's quite mentally sharp but condined to the wheelchair.

Some of the comments from people around Bush indicate that he's been
doing this often enough that one of Bush's people told the young woman
that they should have warned her not to stand near him.

As I understand it, he tells the same lame joke she got her panties in an uproar over to everyone and either his arm flops around or he tries to put
them at ease over his physical condition and everyone rolls their eyes at his bad joke.

I think this was a thing where you go to Barbara and say, hey, your
husband was out of line there. Barbara then apologizes and explains
the way things are, and that ends the matter. What I don't think you
do is go running to the HuffPost to claim sexual harassment from a >93-year-old wheelchair-bound dotard.

I especially didn't like how it took some of the air out of the
coverage of real, actual sexual harassment of victimized women from the
    likes of Harvey Weinstein.

act more like the Waltons than the Simpsons.

In any case, it's pretty pathetic for this Simpsons loser to pile on
    like this.

the complaints being lodged about him, it certainly sounds like he is
    mentally there.

My sis the nurse practitioner (remember her?) has worked in old-age
homes. Aged patients of either sex were forever slapping the staff on
the ass or coming onto them in some way. There is something in the
older, less able mind that thinks it's funny and charming and that you
    do, too.

I don't think it is a sign of a less able mind. I do think it is a sign
that they think they can get away with it and that they just don't care
if people object to their impoliteness.

Of courser you on't, but you're not senile.

Some of the comments from people around Bush indicate that he's been
doing this often enough that one of Bush's people told the young woman
that they should have warned her not to stand near him.

I think this was a thing where you go to Barbara and say, hey, your
husband was out of line there. Barbara then apologizes and explains
the way things are, and that ends the matter.

It seems clear from the comments that Barbara Bush knows what is going
on. She is probably embarrassed, but really, what can she do about it?
It isn't like she can threaten to withhold sex or something.

    What I don't think you
do is go running to the HuffPost to claim sexual harassment from a 93-year-old wheelchair-bound dotard.

I especially didn't like how it took some of the air out of the
coverage of real, actual sexual harassment

I agree completely. The entire 'MeToo' campaign seems to muddle rape,
sexual assaults, harrasment, and cases where someone was simply
'rude'...and the rudeness is often just an effect of the bad pick up
    line being unwanted.

    No. It's simply schadenfreude.

Way to show an inability to take a joke.

Jokes are supposed to be funny, and not just cheap shots that show that
you've spent 25 years with a chip on your shoulder.

So you missed his self deprecation as well. That makes you 0-2.

Admitting that you're pathetic enough to carry around a chip on your
shoulder for 25 years doesn't change the fact that you've been pathetic
enough to carry around a chip on your shoulder for 25 years. And it
    doesn't make it funny.

He's been trying to act more like the Waltons who own Walmart.
