Well it's been a while, eh? And the episode? I was thrown a bit by the style at
first, thinking what a weird gimmick doing an episode as a 70s cop show was, but it really wasn't bad. (Selman episode, too.) It wasn't genius or anything, either, but it was
pleasant, the characters felt right, and the story was decent. As the series ages, forays like this are a good idea when they work (and this worked better for me than, say, The Serfsons). Solid guest spots from SNL's Bill Hader and Cecily Strong.
DYN:
...a high amount of changed lines, judging from the number of mismatched mouth movements?
...another rare credits-font change?
Dedication
Amazingly for such a long gap in new episodes, there is quite a "fresh" dedication: for multiple episode guest star Stephen Hawking, who died last week
on 3/14. An "IN LOVING MEMORY OF" card went before the Gracie logo, along with a still frame I can't
quite identify offhand. The credits still ran for 48 seconds, and so in addition to seeing this probably vanish on the next airing I wonder how the stylized credits were shortened to fit it in. Or maybe he was significant enough to stay in repeats. We'll
see!
Long time no see
The last new episode (XABF04) ran on 1/14/18, 9 weeks (63 days) ago. Is this the longest time in between new episodes not counting season breaks? Depends on
how you count. Blood Feud (7F22) and Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes? (8F23) ran in the middle
of the summer, among a few other episodes with smaller gaps, but even though at
the time they were billed as summer extras or something, right now they are classified with season 2 and season 3, so technically they make gaps of the same 63 days and 112
days (16 weeks) respectively following their spring "season finales". Nothing else comes close, though. Well, it's vaguely interesting that this one (which also affected Family Guy and so on) occurred smack in the middle of a season.
