There are few truly good vampire films, which is a shame as the genre offers a lot more scope than has been traditionally explored (cf. Hammer Horror). This is arguably the best since Byzantium but not without its flaws.

The two protagonists are very different; Eve loves life and makes the most of it whereas Adam (I know, poor choice of names) suffers from periods of ennui that lead him to contemplate suicide. Adam isn't one of the whiny, self-loathing vampires popularised in the 1990s, however; he possesses a great deal of contempt for most humans, whom he refers to as 'zombies'. Whereas Eve is a consumer of art, Adam creates and releases avante-garde music but assiduously avoids fame.

Unusually for a vampire film, the vampires are quite vulnerable, emotionally and physically. Although they are fast and strong (although one scene rather breaks 'kayfabe'), a lot of human blood is contaminated due to environmental toxins and can even prove fatal.

    I really recommend this film.
