A while back I was actually starting to believe myself that Morrissey
was turning into an embarrassingly bitter, self-destructive and
prejudiced old twat but this latest piece has proven what I've been suspecting more and more - that he is the same old hilariously twisted genius that I've always known and loved. Only more so. The problem is
that most people are far too stupid, humourless and terrorised by the
thought of being considered unfashionable or politically incorrect to recognise how he is fucking with them.
Few of us get it, but how we laugh!
He's had a real resurgence of late, two singles in the top five and a
British tour that has been a much greater success than the ones he was
doing a decade or two ago. The fact that he keeps putting this stuff out
at a time when he's basking in the glory of his re-birth surely shows he truly knows we know him well (lyrics: My Love, I'd do Anything for You)
or he just doesn't give a fuck. I don't know which is more admirable!
This Pink News article is far more balanced than most of the press I've
seen in response to His latest gospel, but really, what kind of a world
are we living in where a person can't say 'Even Tesco wouldn’t employ
Diane Abbott' about a politician well known to be useless without being denounced as a racist! Are we really expected to put up with any shit
that someone of a different race/religion/sexuality wants to shovel us
for fear of being called a bigot? Fuck that. FUCK FUCKING THAT say we.
