One may question the necessity of yet another Amityville sequel, but
never the less, here it is.

This one is a fictionalised account of what happened to the DeFeo
family, who were the family at the infamous Amityville house murdered by
their eldest son in the 1970s. Which was subsequently bought by the
Lutz's, whose story was made into the original Amityville Horror back in
    1977.

The DeFeos are portrayed as a working class Italian family. The older
kids like to get drunk, smoke weed and hang out with other kids their
age. The father (played by TV actor Paul Ben-Victor from The Wire, and nummerous other shows) is an abusive bastard, who regularly beats up the
older kids and berates them at every opportunity for not living up to
    his expectations.

Anyway, when their oldest son Ron Jr, his sister and friends decide to
have a seance whilst hanging out in their parents basement, it unleashes
a series of mysterious events, that get progressively worse.

Someone trashes ther house whilst they're out, strange shadowy figures
can be glanced, Ron Jr claimas he hears voices and the father gets even
more abusive. Culminating in the infamous shootings.

To be fair, the film isn't actually bad, but people will be quick to
note that it's essentially a remake of "Amityville 2 : The Possession"
(except no Exorcisms or dodgy looking demons in this). Indeed, Burt
Young, who played the father in that film, actually makes a couple of appearances in this as the grandfather, just in case the link between
the two wasn't already blindingly obvious.

The film's one major downside is that they obviously weren't able to
film at either the original house, or any of the houses that doubled for
it in the previous films. Resulting in some rather dodgy CGI background
shots in some scenes, but thats about the only quibble.

I'd say it's worth a watch, but that's about it. Again, it isn't a "bad"
movie, but it's not exactly a masterpiece either.
