Off topic for this group, but as I know a number of you like classic
British comedies, thought I'd post this up.

I'm sure most of you are familiar with "Till Death Us Do Part", a hugely popular comedy series that ran from the late 60s through to the mid-70s
on BBC, featuring the loud mouthed Alf Garnett and his long suffering
    wife Else.

Well in 1981, the show was sort-of ressurected by ITV for one series,
which saw Alf and Else and their former neighbour Min, move to Eastborne.

It was basically a continuation of the earlier BBC show, albeit in a new setting, with a now retired Alf spouting his usual bigotry, upsetting
the wrong people and spending vast amounts of time getting drunk down
    the pub.

Una Stubbs even reprised her role as their daughter Rita for a couple of episodes, although strangely her son, who would have been around 4 when
the previous series ended, now seems to be about 16. Despite the fact
this was only filmed 6 years on from the previous show.

Produced by ATV studios, the series was only 6 episodes long and was not
as successful as its predecessor. Also, ATV were taken over by Central
TV the following year, who disliked the show and given its average
ratings, chose not to continue it and, to my knowledge, never repeated it.

Alf would return to our screens a few years later with "In Sickness and
In Health", which was again produced by the BBC. In which he and Else
are living back in London. This was much better received by audiences
    and ran for 6 series.

As a result of the 2 BBC series running for so long and the fact that
the short lived ITV show was never repeated, few people are even aware
of its existence. There's also some doubt as to whether the ITV series
is canoniacal, given that it's never referenced in the later show.

Whilst "Till Death" isn't quite as good, its still worth a watch if you
enjoyed the BBC shows. It has been released to DVD, although the laugh
track recorded for the series appears to be absent on all but one
episode on the disc, which totally alters the atmosphere.

Controversy about Alf Garnett canon. Today I learnt.

The original was good. The one I still can't manage to sit-through is AS TIME GOES BY. Fuck, there's boring sentimentalism.
