Priest in training David Acosta (Mike Colter LUKE CAGE) recruits lapsed Catholic and psychologist Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) to join
him and skeptic teammate Ben Shakir to investigate demonic possession
for the Catholic church. Each episode follows the team as they explore a
new case and try to determine if it falls under the auspices of the
church or mental health professionals. Dr. Leland Townsend (Michael
Emerson LOST) is their nemesis and seeks to thwart them at every step.

I missed this series when it was broadcast on CBS but have since caught
up with it streaming on Netflix. Overall I enjoy the series and the
balance between supernatural or religious and more mundane explanations
as to the actions of those who are afflicted. It is a bit 'monster of
the week' in nature but there is an underlying plot about a conspiracy
that may involve demons attempting to destroy or enslave humanity that
kept me interested. My only complaint is that a few episodes have humour
that to me is out of place.
