• Fulci for fake

This has just turned up on Prime (in the UK, at any rate).

Not at all what I thought it would be.

It’s a rather touching little documentary that manages to skip all the
hoary old anecdotes we’ve heard a thousand times and goes in a completely different direction. It’s about the man not the movies, which I think will disappoint those to whom it’s been terribly mismarketed as some kind of remake of UN GATTO NEL CERVELLO.

I’m not sure this should be on Prime at all given that the blu-ray has only just been released and is doing boffo business. My guess is it will get
pulled (a la the ONE CUT OF THE DEAD debacle), so catch it quick.

I passed on this during the big sale over at Severin Films as it seemed
a bit expensive for a documentary on Fulci. I like the man's films but
tend not to re-watch documentaries. Interesting that it has shown up on
Prime in the U.K. It does not appear to be available on Prime in the
U.S. If I recall correctly Severin could not sell this title to those
outside the U.S. or North America.

Jon Kitley writes in his review of the film:

'Fulci for Fake does an incredible job showing even more depth and
details on this strange character of Italian cinema. We get to see tons
of photos and even film footage of his past, with his wife and two
daughters. He did not have an easy life, but I know he will always be remembered for the great pieces of cinema that he has left millions of
fans. Fulci for Fake helps remind us just how good he was.'
