TO THE LAKE is a Russian series that was acquired by Netflix.

Mother Russia is in turmoil. Moscow is surrounded by soldiers and only
trucks delivering food are allowed in or out. A plague has arrived and devastated the city. A plague that blinds its victims and kills the host
in a matter of days. The quarantine has not been successful as the
plague has reared its head in other parts of the country.

The series follows two families, brought together by the husbands’ friendship, who try and survive this new world. Their plan is to leave
their Moscow suburb and head to a lake where they imagine they can wait
out the disease in safety. The biggest threat might not be the virus
though, it may well be the other humans looking out for themselves.

Don’t go into this series expecting a 28 DAYS LATER zombie fest. This is
not a zombie series. The focus of the series is drama. The drama that
envelops the main character and him having his ex-wife and autistic son
with his current girlfriend. It is about the friction between him and
his weasly friend whose true colours come out when basic survival is up
for grabs. Throw in others in the same situation looking for food and
someplace safe and that leads to friction aplenty.

TO THE LAKE is a tense, exciting watch. Yes, it veers a bit into the
melodrama with two women at loggerheads over their man but we’ve all
seen the anger, desperation and hate that a rampant virus can cause.
Real life is often more melodramatic than reel life.

    Recommended.

Doubt I'll make it beyond the first episode, the characters are all just
    AWFUL.
