Bit of a bizarre vampire horror, set in the US. A troubled schoolkid,
who's spent most of his teenage years in the charge of his abusive
grandfather, is shocked to discover a vampire sheltering from the
    sunlight in the garden shed.

Having quickly made mincemeat of both his pet dog and his grandfather,
he finds himself unable to call the police, as he knows that he'll
either end up in foster care or juvenile detention, owing to previous convictions.

But when his friend learns about what's in the shed and decides to get
revenge on the school bully by shoving him inside, it starts a chain of
events that sees him and his girlfriend battling for survival as night
    falls.

Not bad, bit slow to begin with. But the end battle was quite good fun.

Your first two paragraphs make it sound like a crazy teen comedy. The
type where an unexpected visit from child services forces the vampire to
hide around the house while the hero runs around frantically causing one distraction after another to save his undead friend.

Have you seen VAMPIRE DAD? I enjoyed it. Set in a sitcom-perfect 1960's American neighbourhood, two parents try to keep the father's vampirism
from their daughter. Meanwhile, the father, who works from home as a psychiatrist, is tasked with providing help to other monsters
(werewolves, zombies etc) with their emotional problems.
