Not sure why, but I had it in my head that this film had something to do
with a dog. I think I must have been getting confused with Turner and Hooch.
Anyway, Roy Sheider and a young Adam Baldwin are a couple of mismatched
Mafia hitmen, hired to abduct a young boy from Police protection, who
had witnessed a mafia killing.
Following a very bloody shootout, they get the kid, but the trip back
doesn't go to plan. Aside from the fact that someone was left alive,
meaning the cops are now onto them, it seems the two don't get along.
Cohen (Scheider) is a seasoned pro, both cold and calculating. Whereas
Tate (Baldwin) is a young hot head, clearly mentally unstable, who
obviously enjoys killing.
As the long trip drags on and with the cops closing in, tension between
the two mounts and the young lad begins to wonder if they'll actually
manage to deliver him to their bosses without killing each other first...
Directed by Eric Red, who wrote The Hitcher and Near Dark, this is quite
a gripping road movie, in which you're never too sure what is going to
happen next. As they'e forced to overcome car problems, police
roadblocks and their mutual dislike of one another.
Would make an excellent companion piece to The Hitcher, if you're a fan
of that you should like this.
