‘Bloodsucking Freaks’ Director Joel M. Reed Dies at 86
By Jeremy Dick -
April 14, 2020
More sad news is coming in tonight as it’s now apparent veteran filmmaker Joel M. Reed has tragically passed away from coronavirus complications at the age of 86. Word of the Bloodsucking Freaks director’s death comes from Reed’s brother, Elliott
Reed, in a post left for Reed’s fans on his personal Facebook page.
“It is with deep sorry to announce, that our brother Joel passed away two days ago, from the coronavirus,” Elliott says in the post. “Joel will surely be missed by his friends, fans and family. He had a remarkable career as
a writer and film maker.
At this time we are living in, Joel will not have a service or formal funeral. He was a soldier during the Korean War and will have a military funeral without
services.”
Reed is particularly famous with horror fans for his 1976 film Bloodsucking Freaks, which was distributed by Troma Entertainment. Some of his other works as a filmmaker include Career Bed, Night of the Zombies, The G.I. Executioner, and Sex by

Story, and you can see him in the trailer for that film below.
Reed is the latest of multiple celebrities to fall victim to the deadly coronavirus, as the contagion recently led to the death of Jaws actress Lee Fierro among many others. It really is a dark and depressing time we are now living in, and moving forward,
we all need to continue with our collective efforts to slow the spread of the virus. 2020 really, really hasn’t been shaping up to be a good year at all.
