Yup, the old 70s TV series has been given a much darker make over. For
this updated tale of a holiday resort, that can make your dreams come
true, but not always how you intended...
A group of 5 American tourists arrive at a secluded tropical island
resort, that claims to be able to turn your wildest fantasies into
reality. There they are met by the enigmatic Mr Rourke (Michael Pena),
who quickly shows them to the locations where their fantasies are to
begin. But they soon realise things aren't what they expected them to be.
One chap who's always fantasised about joining the army quickly regrets
his choice, when he finds himself dumped in the middle of a Vietnam-like scenario.
A couple of guys who asked to live an obscenely wealthy lifestyle are
shocked to discover that in this fantasy, their wealth comes from being
drug cartels. Which isn't so cool when people who work for one of their rivals show up with automatic weapons.
And one young girl finds that revenge is not necessarily a dish best
served cold, when she gets to live out her fantasy, in getting her own
back on a former school bully.
As the old saying goes, "Be careful what you wish for"...
Not a bad movie, passed 90mins quite well. But not exactly a milestone
in cinematic history either. Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy) turns up as a
hit man in one of the fantasies, whilst Michael Rooker also has a role
as a private investigator, who's been hiding in the jungle trying to
figure out how the island works.
Worth a watch, although Michael Pena is no Ricardo Montalban to be sure.
No dwarf sidekick in this either.

I've been saying for years they should stop treating the over
60s except for a cyanide pill on their 70th birthday.

I remember once thinking that LOGAN'S RUN had the best idea - Until I
turned 30 and reconsidered.

I didn't mind it, but it could have been much better - especially the
ending, which was crap. In fact, the more I think about it, the more crap
it becomes.
The final scene also made it clear a sequel is coming.
