    dear me what a slog!
i got the distinct impression that the makers didn't really want to make
the film, they wanted to make it chapter one part 2 judging by the
    endless flashback scenes.
chop all them out and you might have had a more bearable 90 minute
story. wouldn't have made it any more coherent though. it was like a
never ending series of random disjointed scenes stitched together.

and to think i rather enjoyed the first one.

It’s the TV miniseries all over again.

If you want a real slog, might I suggest THE IRISHMAN?

    funny you should say that.....

tomorrow I have workmen visiting to replace the faulty bath on my
supposedly new build house along with the wall tiles they broke taking
out the old one. this means i'll have to sit in my living room for 8
    doing not much.
i was planning to view the irishman.

    ho hum.....

I've been listening to the novel on audio. "A never ending series of
random disjointed scenes" describes large portions of it as well.

It's very good, but quite subdued compared to Goodfellas or Casino. (Then again, what isn't?) Definitely an old guy's film.

The "de-aging" doesn't really work, but you tune it out after a while.

I cotemplated both for last night's entertainment but fucked them off due
to their dispiriting LONGNESS, then ended up watching all five cunting
hours of Who Killed Little Gregory? The best true crime thing since Making
    a Murderer.

Simon, you want to get yourself over to France, they apparently oonsider a FACTORY FOREMAN to be something like an EMPEROR.

I liked Part 1, my main criticism of the old TV mini-series was that it
filled in the backstory with disjointed flashbacks and was a bit of a
mess. So was pleased they went with a linear storyline for the first
    part of this adaptation.

When it came to part 2, the impression I got was that they had too much material for one film, but not enough for two. So they took all the
deleted scenes from part 1 and crammed them into part 2 to pad the
    running time.

As a result, the second film suffered from the same problems as the old
    TV series. A disjointed mess.

The worst part is the flashback footage is of scenes that would have
taken place during the timeline of part 1, but weren't actually in it.
Which causes you to question when the bloody hell did these take place
    then?

    A most unsatisfactory conclusion.

When ARTC acquaintances told me at rehearsal that the original TV-movie's second-half had more to watch than this "sequel" .... Let's just say SKIP.

Which is EXACTLY why those pretentious Hollywood twits need to leave some stories ALONE. Not everything can transfer medium to medium & retain itself from "adaptation" into a barely recognizable mess.
