One of those actors that most people didn't know the name of, but
undoubtedly recognised from some film or other. Often playing comic stooges.

He had an interesting role as the town drunk in Lucio Fulci's "Four of
the Apocalypse". If you haven't seen that, it's worth a watch, in which
he stars opposite (amongst others) Italian regulars Donald O'Brien and
Franco Nero.
