A few more films I've seen recently that I thought deserved a mention
    here:

HERE COMES HELL - Low-Budget British movie made in a classic B&W horror
style about a group of rich friends having a dinner party in a run-down mansion. Not entirely successful, but worth a look for its novelty value.

BUTTERFLY KISSES - One of the better "Found Footage" movies (although,
some would argue that's a pretty low bar). A filmmaker finds some video
tapes made by some film students 10 years earlier about an urban legend.
He attempts to discover the truth whilst at the same time trying to
kickstart his own career. His story is captured by another film crew as
he is met with doubt and derision.

ANTRUM: THE DEADLIEST FILM EVER MADE - Starts off as a mockumentary about
a supposedly cursed film which causes the death of anyone who sees it.
After this brief introduction, the film in question is shown. Probably
would have worked just as well without the mockumentary aspect.

Why does this remind me of the book THROAT SPROCKETS?

Yep, i agree, Not Complete Crap sums this one up pretty well. It's not
great, it makes some poor choices (like claiming the cast to be greek
but having them speak flawless american-english, probably should have
dubbed it for authenticity) and it never really goes anywhere - but as a sensory experience it's fairly decent.
