i rather enjoyed this, tried to avoid the hype but still good.
it could have had any other name and been about any other person, the
name is just a hook to get in the viewers of a rather sombre, slow paced character piece. phoenix certainly puts the effort into his roles.
had a few slyly amusing bits too.

plus it's miles better than that last crappy superman vs batman film.

I kinda hated this. It builds up some interest in the last third, but
mostly it's just poorly warmed over Scorsese.

    Fucker.

I was resolutely determined to be unimpressed by this and dismiss Joaquin's performance as a pantomime Travis Bickle...didn't quite turn out like that.
The film itself is good, not THAT special, but I was floored by Joker
himself - I have never identified so strongly (scarily) with a film
character before ( eg. the hysterical laughter at things that nobody else
finds funny!). After discussing it with someone last night, it appears
there are a couple of points I missed (not being familiar with all this
comic book shit) so I've got up early to watch it again before I go to
work. Probably not a good idea to put myself in that frame of mind, the transformation from weekend-me to weekday-me is a tough one at the best of times.

    THERE IS NO PUNCHLINE.

Watched it for the 6th-ish time last night, but for the first time with
someone else. A tense moment, like when you share a Morrissey album or a Stewart Lee dvd for the first time. All on edge, 100% focussed on THEIR reaction...just a few minutes in and I could tell it was all going to be
    FINE. Awesome.

I figured it would be more Hollywood(if she could)-franchise bullshit. It WAS, but was better than I thought. Personally, I always found the character sympathetic in the sense of how closely I identify..

I've become unhealthily obsessed with it. God, there couldn't have been a
more apt film for last year. And did it inspire the masses to rise up
against those who oppress and exploit them? No, they flocked to the GARY GLITTER STEPS to take fucking selfies. Then topped the year off by happily digging their own mass grave and rolling right in! Who the fuck is a person supposed to respect?

It was good. Really good. Not GREAT, but good. Kinda amusing that horror-films
have always been the most sympathetic genre to people having mental-illness.

BTW, the Oscars need to get their shit in-order: while this was good, both JOJO
RABBIT and THE LIGHTHOUSE were better & less over-hyped.
