• Ghoulies 3 : Ghoulies go to College

Just giving this a rewatch, defintely the best in the series (though
some might argue that's not saying much).

The Ghoulies wreek havoc on a college campus after being summoned up by incantations in an old comic book.

B-movie stalwart Kevin McCarthy plays the long suffering college Dean
who is sick of the students incessant pranks and after finding he can
control the ghoulies with the comic book, sends them out to do his bidding

Much more comedic than the other Ghoulies films, this one was more how I envisioned the first film to be, which was actually just a straight
horror film, in which the titular ghoulies turned out to be nothing more
    than peripheral characters.

The second film, whilst an improvement, failed to hit the comedy mark
and again just seemed like a straight, low budget horror (best thing
about it was WASPs music video - Scream Until You Like It).

This time they upped the comic ante and made it more slapstick, which is
what they should have done with the other films.

There is a fourth Ghoulies film, which the puppets were replaced by
midgets, but again not as good.

Not to everyones tastes, but definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.

After watching your review I'm tempted to check out the GHOULIES series
after avoiding them for the last few decades.

Part 1 is "OK" if you view it for what it is, a low budget horror about
black magic gone wrong. The film was marketted as a Gremlins-like horror-comedy, which it wasn't and (as I said in the vid) the Ghoulies
are little more than peripheral characters.

Most people prefer the second film, as the Ghoulies get maximum screen
time as they terrorise the haunted house ride at a carnival. But again,
was marketted as a comedy, which it really wasn't. So wasn't as good as
    it could have been.

Ghoulies 3 is my personal fave, as this was how I envisioned the
original film to be. Though some people disliked the camp comedy, I
    loved it.

Ghoulies 4 wasn't terrible, it features one of the characters from the
original and a lot of flashback footage, though its hard to see how the
plot fits in with the original. Plus (as mentioned elsewhere) the
puppets were replaced with midget actors. One of which, interestingly
enough, was Tony Cox from Bad Santa.

Give em a go, I think they're available on DVD cheap enough.
