Decided to finally check this one out.
Set in the crime ridden Bronx district of New York, in what is supposed
to be 1990 (though actually the early 80s) the police and authorities
have decided to completely pull out of the area and leave the gangs to it.
A young heiress named Ann, who is set to take over her family's corrupt corporation, decides she wants none of it and hides out in the Bronx.
Where she meets and hooks up with a biker named Trash, who's the leader
of a motorcyle gang called The Riders who she quickly joins.
But, Ann's family want her back, so send in a group of mercenaries, led
by Vic Morrow (in what was to be his last feature film, before getting
killed on the set of The Twilight Zone), to track her down and return
her. Which kicks of a brutal gang war, as he goes around killing rival
gang members, who blame each other for the deaths.
Clearly a very low budget picture, most of the scenes in New York seem
to take place on wasteland areas. The interior scenes in the crumbling buildings could have been shot almost anywhere from what we see of them (probably studio in Rome).
Whilst the film isn't bad, I was expecting more of an action pic.
However, with the exception of the end battle which provided some
interesting action scenes, the film was mostly filled with these overly
long dialogue scenes where not much seemed to be happening.
Worth a watch, if only for seeing Fred Williams playing a kung-fu
fighting pimp. But as far as dysotopian pics go, it isn't quite Mad Max 1.
