Why is it all these Italian post-apoc films seem to resemble a future
that is actually far more technologically advanced than one would expect?

Case in point, "2019 - After the Fall of New York". Supposedly set 20
years after a Nuclear War, meaning that must have taken place sometime
    in 1989.

Yet somehow, they are armed with fancy laser guns and fly about in
futuristic looking airships. Fairly sure there were no laser guns around
in 1989 and I'm reasonably confident they wouldn't have been developed
in the aftermath, considering everything has been wiped out.

OK, so it was filmed in 1983, but surely they must have realised that
laser guns were not liable to be developed within the next 6 years when
the war is supposed to break out?

Another example, "The New Barbarians", again set in 2019
(co-incidentally), everyone is driving "futuristic" golf carts and dune
buggies sprayed silver and again, everyone is armed with lasers.

Exterminators of the Year 3000, OK so this one is set in the year 3000,
so you'd expect the survivors to have the remnants of slightly more
futuristic technology, even though they're driving round in cars
manufactured in the late 70s. But I'm fairly sure they wouldn;t have
robots, or the ability to build a spaceship.

So, what's anyone's take on this?

I wouldn't let it bug me but I guess it would suck if you're one of
    those "suspension of disbelief" obsessives.

just look at all the flying cars in blade runner.
as that's a 'clever' film i've always wondered if ridley scott really
thought the world would look like that in the 2000s or if he just picked
    a random date.

If you spray your golf-buggy silver the laser is just going to bounce off, isn't it? Stands to reason.

2019 is one of the better Italian post-apocalypse films. It's not a good
film, but it is good fun.
