For all you ADHD lovers of cult horror movies, er horror movies about
cults, if you thought APOSTLE was slow you're going to love THE
ENDLESS.
Childhood escapees of a UFO death cult decide that after ten years of
barely surviving in the real world maybe the cult wasn't so bad and
pop back to see how everybody is hanging. Everybody is good, thanks
for asking, but there is definitely some weird shit going on with the
God in the Woods.
This is one of those thoughtful low-budget movies acted, written and
directed by the same people. Some great visuals (special effects are surprisingly well done) mixed with an annoying amount of shaky cam.
The plot is intelligent if not always making a lot of sense and acting
is fine. Very leisurely paced though, so you lot should skip it.
After this SBS was showing the well-reviewed COLONIA based on a real
life Chilean cult but I was culted out.
Hopefilly it's not as dill as your review, baby!

There is actually a very distinct difference between SLOW and DULL,
funny cunt.
I really liked The Endless, although it wasn't quite as brilliant as
some of the reviews made out. The relationship between the brothers,
their different takes on what life was like in the cult and motivations
for returning to it, were especially original and fascinating. As the
mystery unfolded, the explanation was a lot less profound than had been hinted at, but it still had something uniquely pleasing about it.

Yeah, like the difference between you and me.

I wouldn't have minded if they'd left it unexplained. The scene where something invisible is throwing shit round in the wood was very
effective and pretty scary in a THE-DAMNED-THING sort of way. That
would have done me.
Have you seen the trailer for Bird Box on Netflix? Sandra fucking
Bullock?! That at least removes any doubt about whether or not it's
going to be shit.

No, but read the crappy review it got in the Guardian. If there ever was
an unfilmable story surely this is it.

It's been a while since I read the book, but there were many elements of IT COMES AT NIGHT that reminded me of it.
...Mainly the claustrophobia, but both
make you question whether trying to survive in such a hopeless situation would drive you insane, or is it only the insane who would even want to survive?

I don't know how the seppos resist the temptation of a bullet to the head
on a normal day, let alone in the middle of all THAT.

The Guardian also compared BIRD BOX to A QUIET PLACE - another one I've
been meaning to see.
Haven't you heard - you can give that one a miss.

Got round to seeing it (ICAN) and thought it was great. If I had a
complaint it would be that it was probably a bit too bleak.
SPOILER
...instead of being a kick in the guts the climax is, oh yeah I
thought so and, as you say, they were all fucked anyway so who cares?
Stupid title didn't do it any favours critically I suspect. Or
rather, good title but for a different film.

So, apart from EVERYTHING ABOUT IT, you thought it was great.
