Tremors is more a tribute to giant monster movies of the 50's and a lot of

fun.

You could generalise and put it in horror along with THEM, The Day of the Triffids, etc. But most would not actually categorize it as horror. Great movie that it is.
Tremors II is OK and nowhere as good as the first, but I've seen worse giant monster movies out there.
