THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE 2 at number 17?!?!? I haven't seen the film but I
really doubt it should be anywhere near the top twenty.

GET OUT at number one. While I enjoyed the film it is not one that comes
to mind when I think of the best of the last twenty years.

Awful list. There's only 3 on the list that really deserve to be on there.

Say what you like about THC, but it's the first horror movie in my
lifetime with a genuinely original premise.

There's nothing remotely original about GET OUT.

the hungry caterpillar 2 is certainly very memorable - part 1 and 3 are really bad, part 2 at least has a strange quality to it and the main
actor certainly gives himself to the film.

The "strange quality" being almost AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL in your case?

That movie is Raimi doing a parody of himself. Badly. I really wish he
    would attempt something serious again.

I didn't even remember it was Raimi. What the hell is wrong with people?

First time I've looked at the list, TBH, and I've seen about half of them.

A welcome inclusion in what seems to be the result of throwing darts at a bunch of movie names is HOSTEL PART II. I was, at best, lukewarm on the original when
it was first released but I have moderated my opinion of it somewhat of late. I
always preferred this sequel, though. I think that it goes to some interesting places and manages to tell an interesting story from multiple perspectives. I reckon that it might scrape into my own top 20 if only just.

It just shows how dismal the genre has been for the last twenty years.

It has definitely struggled, but that's to be expected when everything
has been done and originality is hard to find. However, if reviewers are limiting themselves to mainstream releases, then the results are bound to
be uninspired. Independent films is where the ideas are.

I would dispute that BR is a horror film.

    UNDEAD was bilge pus.

RAZORBACK must be around 30 years old by now. The ludicrous gore and bloodletting that they added for the R-rated VHS cut is hilarious.

Some of my favourite films are from the last 20 years. SESSION 9,
BATTLE ROYALE, TALE OF TWO SISTERS and (included to wind up Dr W)
    PONTYPOOL.

    Gather round.

    We've already got:

    AUDITION
    THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT
    RINGU

    Nobody could object to:

    REC
    MARTYRS
    SESSION 9
    DAWN OF THE DEAD
    28 WEEKS LATER
LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (not just because it's named after a Morrissey song
    - the author is a massive fan)

And I will have to insist on:

    BORDERLANDS
MUM & DAD (not the Nicolas Cage one)

That's 11. I will generously let somebody else pick the rest. But these
would be my choices (which actually come to more than 20!).

    In order:

    KAIRO
    IRREVERSIBLE
    A FIELD IN ENGLAND
    KILL LIST
    TRAIN TO BUSAN
    IT COMES AT NIGHT
    TRIANGLE
THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS
    THE ORPHANAGE
    CALVAIRE
    SINISTER
    FUNNY GAMES (?)

See. I can be normal if I try really hard. The pain, though....

BORDERLANDS was great until the absolutely DAFT ending.

    In order:

    KAIRO
    IRREVERSIBLE

Arguably not a horror film but it is very good.

    A FIELD IN ENGLAND

It's okay but a touch pretentious.

    KILL LIST

    Yes.

    TRAIN TO BUSAN
    IT COMES AT NIGHT

Yet to give this a look.

    TRIANGLE
THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS
    THE ORPHANAGE
    CALVAIRE
    SINISTER

That'll be a controversial choice. I wouldn't put it in a top 20 but I enjoyed it well enough at the time.

    FUNNY GAMES (?)

    Maybe.

WOLF CREEK is great save the moment where they have the killer out cold and don't simply beat the cunt's brains out with a rifle butt. You could drive a Mack truck through that plot hole.

UNDEAD. And when was RAZORBACK made?

But let's be honest, the Australian film industry is total and utter
    shit these days.

    THE LOVED ONES

Delivered a lot less than its premise, ah, promised. Didn't mind it, though.

I really enjoyed THE LOVED ONES. More than likely I would have passed it
by if not for a recommendation here.

Lots of billboard advertising here. Looked intriguing. Was okay. Solidly okay, in fact, but really didn't set my world on fire.

It has definitely struggled, but that's to be expected when
everything has been done and originality is hard to find. However,
    if
reviewers are limiting themselves to mainstream releases, then the
results are bound to be uninspired. Independent films is where the
    ideas are.

Some of my favourite films are from the last 20 years. SESSION 9,
BATTLE ROYALE, TALE OF TWO SISTERS and (included to wind up Dr W)
    PONTYPOOL.

    Gather round.

    We've already got:

    AUDITION
    THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT
    RINGU

    Nobody could object to:

    REC
    MARTYRS
    SESSION 9
    DAWN OF THE DEAD
    28 WEEKS LATER
LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (not just because it's named after a Morrissey
    song
    - the author is a massive fan)

And I will have to insist on:

    BORDERLANDS
MUM & DAD (not the Nicolas Cage one)

That's 11. I will generously let somebody else pick the rest. But
    these
would be my choices (which actually come to more than 20!).

    In order:

    KAIRO
    IRREVERSIBLE
    A FIELD IN ENGLAND
    KILL LIST
    TRAIN TO BUSAN
    IT COMES AT NIGHT
    TRIANGLE
THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS
    THE ORPHANAGE
    CALVAIRE
    SINISTER
    FUNNY GAMES (?)

See. I can be normal if I try really hard. The pain, though....

I will also have to include RADIUS which was on the Horror channel last night, but is more sci-fi really. A man wakes up in a crashed car with
no memory of what has happened but soon learns that anyone who comes
within a certain radius of him immediately drops dead. 8/10

And now you can add BROTHERS' NEST to the list.
