Not exactly a horror in the truest sense, more a coming of age drama,
but with a supernatural twist and set on Halloween night.

Halloween night 1997, in a suburb of Adelaide. The film revolves around
2 former friends, Toby and Jonah who were once inseperable, but drifted
    apart as they got older.

The boys have left school for the last time, Toby is hanging round with
a group he calls friends, who have gone out for one last night of
hellraising. But eventually, he decides to wander off by himself.

Crossing paths with his old friend Jonah, who the other boys in the
group used to pick on, they get chatting and Toby agrees to walk back
home with him. But end up making a few detours on the way, as they
reminisce over old times, and try to avoid Jonah's other so-called
friends who are on on their bikes causing trouble.

But we quickly get the impression something is decidedly off on this
Halloween night. The town seems to be like a ghostly neverworld, devoid
of cars and no one else on the street except the 2 groups of lads, and a
couple of other people who's significance becomes apparent later.

Kind of like a Stephen King adaptation of Donnie Darko, the film relies
quite heavily on symbolism, Toby's wolf mask being one, as he hangs with
a pack of lads that prey on the weak. Plus there are a lot of things we
see at the start of the night that relate to things at the end, such as
2 young trick or treaters who run past them, who's costumes we see again
later. Plus there's some dialogue, which takes on a much different
    meaning later on.

The film is what I would call a slow burner, but is very compelling.
Though clocking in at just under 2 hours, could have been a little
shorter. Its also perhaps a little too clever in places, as there are
clues early on as to what its building to, which you may not pick up on,
so you have to pay attention. But overall I really enjoyed this, even
though its something of a sad film. It does however end on a slightly
more upbeat note, so isn't a total downer.

    Anyone else seen this?

I watched it tonight and thought it was predictable, mawkish crap. Great soundtrack though.

No. Fortunately, it only cost 99p on Amazon video to see it.

The soundtrack was (mostly) very good - inevitably for an Australian film
set in the 90s, the first track was by Spiderbait, but there were also
nice additions from Gary Numan, Garbage and Rammstein.
