Fuck me, what an appalling sack of shit. Although I'm sure there will be
a couple of people here who will love it and rave about the "impressive visuals".

    I love Barry Manilow.

    Yes.

Nicholas Cage can do NO WRONG.

This performance is his worst yet. I actually had to fast-forward one
scene because it was just too cringeworthy.

Anyway, good luck sitting through the first hour, which is painfully slow
and made worse by a director who doesn't seem to know when to end a scene.

When he was sat on the toilet in his pants, screaming and crying, drinking vodka out of the bottle? Just another Tuesday night for me.

I loved every second of the first hour. The drawn-out, nightmarish quality reminded me a lot of Suspiria, The House by the Cemetery and even Dagon
(Dagon! Haven't thought about that film in ages). The ASTONISHING visuals
and MAGNIFICENT fucking Johann Johannson soundtrack - absolutely perfect in every way - made it incredibly disturbing and much more of a horror film
than I was expecting. What I WAS expecting was, once the wife was dead, for
it to go FULL-ON CAGE with the tempo and action ramped up, as well as the trademark over-acting. Instead it meandered on for ages before the half-
decent action kicked in (it could have definitely lost half an hour around
the 60-90 minute mark for me). Sort of got back on track by the end but
could have been so much better. One to watch late at night when suitably
cunted - think I'll line it up for the HALLOWEEN FINALE.

DAGON is criminally underrated if you ask me. Not so much a Lovecraft adaptation as a melange of Lovecraft stories presented in film form. I really dug the constant rain motif. And the squid girl with the EYES like fucking DINNER PLATES.

I've got gallons of that shit. People keep buying me it even though I
went off it when everybody starting drinking it.

It's an old favourite but, as I said, one I'd half forgotten about. Must
be due for a re-watch - I'll try and resist until Halloween.
