I was going to say why doesn't the BBC do period drama like this, but apparently
they do. However I suspect in Park Chan-wook's adaptation of FINGERSMITH the violence is rather more gory and the scissoring a lot more enthusiastic.

Street urchin Suki joins a plot to separate heiress Lady Hideko from her fortune in Japanese-occupied Korea. However things turn out to all be a bit more complicated (and sapphic).

Rated R18 for its sex rather than its violence, the Sarah Waters story is right up Park Chan-wook's jade gate and the dreamy visuals, complicated plot and repressed sex-maniacs play out in standard Park fashion.

I enjoyed it. All a bit excessive at times, but what do you expect?
